Angel Yeast’s Breakthrough in Yeast Protein Research: AngeoPro Shown to Promote Calcium Absorption, Aiding in Osteoporosis Prevention

Angel Yeast announced a major advancement in research on its yeast protein product AngeoPro. New scientific studies confirm that yeast protein provides a balanced amino acid profile—nearly 48% of which are essential amino acids—closely aligning with the ideal protein reference standard. Importantly, the findings highlight yeast protein’s ability to enhance calcium absorption and its potential role in supporting long-term bone health.

Research Highlights: Calcium Absorption and Bone Strength

This study, conducted in collaboration with Huazhong Agricultural University and published in Food Research International, evaluated how yeast protein impacts calcium metabolism and bone health in rat models maintained on both normal and calcium-deficient diets.

Key findings include:

1.Supporting Calcium Absorption: Yeast protein (YP) was shown to boost intestinal calcium absorption through in vitro calcium chelation and in vivo slow-release mechanisms. Co-supplementation of yeast protein and calcium effectively increased serum calcium levels and improved bone biomechanical properties (P<0.05). Specific improvements include reduced trabecular bone vacuoles, increased cortical bone density, and a higher amount of bone collagen, indicating a more complete bone structure, active bone metabolism, and enhanced bone strength and toughness. Compared to the normal control group, supplementation with yeast protein resulted in a denser and smoother femoral surface.

2.Improving Bone Health: Supplementing with yeast protein increased the expression of bone formation markers (bone-specific alkaline phosphatase BALP, osteocalcin BGP, procollagen type I N-terminal propeptide PINP) in calcium-deficient rats, stimulating bone synthesis. The research also found significant improvements in bone length, bone dry weight index, maximum load, maximum stress, and bone calcium content in these rats. The results show that yeast protein, yeast protein-calcium complex, and yeast protein hydrolysate (yeast peptides) can all work in synergy with calcium to support bone growth, enhancing bone mineralization and fracture resistance.

3.Benefiting Gut Health: Intervention with yeast protein-calcium and yeast peptides significantly improved the gut health of calcium-deficient rats, specifically manifested as: increasing the number of intestinal goblet cells, promoting the repair and regeneration of the intestinal mucosa; increasing intestinal villus height and villus area, improving intestinal absorption function; reducing crypt depth, promoting the proliferation and repair of intestinal epithelial cells. The synergistic effect of yeast protein-calcium was superior to that of the calcium supplementation alone group, indicating that yeast protein has significant advantages in promoting gut health and calcium absorption.

Shaping the Future of Bone Health with Yeast Protein

While yeast protein has already shown significant potential in nutritional support for bone health, researchers believe this is only the beginning. Future studies will examine how yeast protein interacts with gut microbiota and will explore the molecular pathways and clinical outcomes behind its role in calcium absorption and bone synthesis.

Angel Yeast remains dedicated to advancing yeast protein research and product development, creating healthy and great-tasting solutions for consumers worldwide. The company will also continue expanding yeast protein applications across the food and nutrition sector, supporting innovation and contributing to improved bone health and quality of life.
