Altopack launches resealable zip packaging for spaghetti

For more than twenty-five years, Altopack has been bringing Italian packaging excellence to the global market. Headquartered in Altopascio, near Lucca, the company specializes in the design and manufacture of packaging machinery, with a particular focus on the food industry. From standalone machines to highly automated complete lines, Altopack delivers innovative solutions designed to meet the evolving demands of both modern manufacturing and consumer markets.

Made-in-Italy technological excellence has always been a cornerstone of Altopack’s identity. Designing and developing its technologies entirely in-house is one of the company’s founding principles, alongside a strong commitment to research and development that continuously drives the evolution of its solutions. Beyond advanced engineering, Altopack is equally focused on creating packaging concepts that combine practicality, creativity and market-driven innovation.

A clear example is its square-bottom spaghetti pack, protected by an original design registration and produced on the patented AOD ULTRA machine. A finalist at the 2020 Oscar dell’Imballaggio (Italian Packaging Awards), the solution combines a distinctive appearance with practical advantages, including the ability to be displayed both front-facing and on its side, increasing shelf visibility. Thanks to printable surfaces on every side, the pack enhances brand communication, product identification and nutritional information while strengthening overall merchandising impact.

Building on the success of this concept, Altopack now introduces its latest innovation: a resealable zip pack featuring a new open-and-close system that evolves the traditional adhesive easy-open concept and redefines the way dry pasta can be stored after opening. By combining creativity, design and engineering expertise, the company has developed a packaging solution for long pasta that represents a significant step forward compared with the conventional pillow pack.

The key innovation is the introduction of a transverse resealable zip, overcoming the limitations of traditional pasta packs once opened. Thanks to a simple and intuitive opening and reclosing system, consumers can reseal the pack after every use, helping preserve the product’s freshness and protect it from external contamination when consumed over time.

Designed with convenience in mind, the pack allows consumers to remove the desired amount of pasta and reseal it with a simple gesture. It offers a new interpretation of functionality while confirming Altopack’s commitment to developing packaging solutions increasingly focused on consumers’ everyday needs.

The innovation has already attracted significant interest in international markets, particularly in Western Asia, where the solution has been enthusiastically received. Confirming its commercial potential, the machine capable of producing this packaging format has recently been installed at a leading company in the region.

The resealable zip pack has been specifically developed for spaghetti and is also available in a bundled version featuring individual 100-gram portions wrapped with food-grade paper bands. This configuration allows consumers to take only the required amount while keeping the remaining product better protected and preserved.

A practical response to today’s consumer expectations, increasingly focused on convenience, waste reduction and improved food preservation.

In addition to its functional benefits, this packaging concept also represents a valuable marketing tool. Its distinctive design and innovative features help products stand out on the shelf, enhancing perceived value and offering premium brands an effective opportunity to reinforce their market positioning.

These innovations reflect the changes that have reshaped consumer habits in recent years. Households are becoming smaller, the number of people living alone continues to grow, and demand is increasing for smarter packaging capable of delivering convenience, freshness and sustainability. Packaging is no longer simply a container; it has become an integral part of the consumer experience. This is precisely the direction in which Altopack continues to invest, reaffirming its commitment to innovation in a market traditionally regarded as conservative, such as pasta packaging, while once again showcasing the excellence of Made in Italy as a global benchmark in food packaging technology.
