EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW – THAIFEX – ANUGA ASIA 2025
Matthew Kurian Matthews, Assistant Editor of Food Business Gulf & Middle East, has been officially invited to attend THAIFEX – ANUGA ASIA 2025 as part of the international media delegation.

Representing one of the region’s most influential F&B trade publications, Food Business Gulf & Middle East reaches over 60,000 industry stakeholders across the Middle East, Africa, and Europe.
Matthew Kurian Matthews

As part of this special assignment, Matthew conducts an exclusive interview with a senior spokesperson from the event’s organizing committee. The discussion offers in-depth perspectives on global food and beverage trends, emerging market opportunities, and the strategic direction of one of the world’s most significant trade events.

Q1: Can you share a brief history and evolution of THAIFEX – ANUGA ASIA?

The internationally renowned food trade show known as THAIFEX – World of Food Asia has been organized annually by the Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP), Ministry of Commerce, since 1991. The event originally launched under the name THAIFEX – HALFEX.
In 2003, the event was restructured to adopt a more international format, with expanded exhibition space to accommodate the growing number of Thai and international exhibitors. It also marked the beginning of a strategic partnership with two key co-organizers: the Thai Chamber of Commerce and Koelnmesse. Together, they co-hosted the event under the new name THAIFEX – World of Food Asia.

Over the past three decades, THAIFEX – World of Food Asia has gained global recognition in the food and beverage industry. It is now widely regarded as Asia’s most comprehensive and influential food and beverage trade show.As the show continued to expand, the organizers agreed in 2020 to rename the event THAIFEX – ANUGA ASIA, aligning with its growing international stature and increasingly diverse audience.

Q2. What are the highlights of THAIFEX – ANUGA ASIA 2025

THAIFEX – ANUGA ASIA 2025 stands out as Asia’s most comprehensive and influential food trade show, featuring three key highlights:
  • A premier sourcing platform for food products and innovations. Exhibitors from around the world will showcase the latest global food trends, including sustainable food, plant-based alternatives, organic products, halal food, and health-oriented options. Visitors will discover new trade opportunities and gain valuable insights to elevate and grow their businesses.
  • A gateway to global business opportunities. The show connects participants with high-quality producers and industry leaders from across the globe, paving the way for meaningful partnerships and long-term success in the global market.
  • A hub of inspiration and fresh perspectives. Attendees will gain new business perspectives and creative ideas through cutting-edge trend showcases, export-focused seminars, and special exhibitions, such as THAI SELECT, HALAL, FOOD ARCADE, and Thai culinary herbs, along with world-class chef competitions.

Q3: How has the show adapted to recent global F&B trends?

Sustainability and innovation have become increasingly critical in shaping global food and beverage landscape. In response, this year’s show highlights a wide range of food products that align with these trends—such as organic goods, plant-based alternatives, and environmentally friendly products. It also supports health-oriented innovations, plant-based nutrition, and eco-conscious packaging solutions.

A major addition this year is THAIFEX – ANUGA Startup — a dedicated platform for innovators and changemakers to pitch their ideas and solutions to buyers, investors, and industry leaders.

Furthermore, the THAIFEX – ANUGA taste Innovation Show will spotlight award-winning innovative products from participating exhibitors, offering a glimpse into the future of food.

Q4: What are the standout innovation trends in 2025?

This year’s exhibition showcases high-potential food and beverage trends, including plant-based foods, health-conscious products, superfoods, and affordable alternative proteins that closely mimic—or even surpass—the taste of real meat. It also features eco-friendly food and beverage packaging solutions.

One of the most prominent trends is purpose-driven innovation—products designed not only for nutritional value, but also to support overall lifestyle, mental wellbeing, and physical health. Examples include functional chocolate drinks that promote better sleep and cognitive performance, and ready-to-drink protein beverages enriched with superfoods that aid digestion.

Q5: How is DITP helping Thai entrepreneurs go global through this event?

THAIFEX – ANUGA ASIA serves as a vital platform to promote Thai food and beverage exports by facilitating business negotiations with buyers from both domestic and international markets. It also fosters a supportive environment for Thai SMEs and startups, helping to build global confidence in the quality and competitiveness of Thai products.

Additionally, the show features the “Export Clinic” – where Director of Thai Trade Centers around the world provide tailored advice and insights into international trade opportunities.

6. How has the trade value at THAIFEX – ANUGA ASIA grown in recent years, and what is the outlook for 2025?

  • THAIFEX – ANUGA ASIA 2023 recorded a total trade value of THB 120.00 billion.
  • THAIFEX – ANUGA ASIA 2024 generated THB 96.27 billion in trade value.
  • The projected trade value for 2025 is approximately THB 98.00 billion, representing an estimated 1.8% growth compared to 2024.

This outlook reflects cautious optimism amid evolving global trade dynamics, while reaffirming the show’s continued role in driving export opportunities for Thai and international businesses.

7. How have exhibitor and visitor numbers changed compared to the previous year?

At THAIFEX – ANUGA ASIA 2025, the show is expected to welcome:

  • 3,231 exhibitors (1,184 from Thailand and 2,047 international)
  • 145,000 visitors in total
  • 90,000 trade visitors during the business days
  • 55,000 general public visitors during the retail days

In comparison, THAIFEX – ANUGA ASIA 2024 saw:

  • 3,133 exhibitors across 6,238 booths (1,109 from Thailand and 2,024 international)
  • 138,508 visitors in total
  • 85,850 trade visitors
  • 52,658 general public visitors

These figures reflect a steady growth in both exhibitor and visitor participation, underscoring the event’s expanding global appeal and its role as a key business platform for the food and beverage industry in Asia.

Q8: What external global factors are shaping the F&B industry?
A: Climate disruptions, geopolitical tensions, and economic slowdowns are key concerns. Events like the Russia–Ukraine war have destabilized supply chains and raised input costs. These pressures demand resilience and innovation.

Q9: How could a potential “Trump 2.0” administration impact the industry?
A: Potential impacts include higher tariffs, labor shortages, and rising production costs. In response, DITP is reassessing trade strategies, strengthening negotiations, and equipping Thai exporters to stay competitive.

Q10: What’s driving the growing international participation this year?
A: A strong partnership between DITP, Thai Chamber of Commerce, and Koelnmesse enables global outreach. Combined with THAIFEX’s reputation, this alliance attracts top-tier exhibitors and buyers from around the world.

Q11: How does THAIFEX compare with shows in Europe or the Americas?
A: THAIFEX’s competitive edge lies in its cultural richness, government-industry collaboration, and a complete ecosystem for trade—from market insights to matchmaking. It’s a bridge between Asia and the global F&B market.

Q12: What new food categories or technologies are being showcased?
A: The focus is on sustainable packaging, health-centric innovations, and plant-based alternatives. These reflect not just consumer demand, but a future-forward vision for the global food industry.

Q13: What are the benefits for international brands participating here?
A: Beyond visibility, brands gain access to Asian buyers, build networks, and identify market entry opportunities. Numerous exhibitors have expanded regionally after their presence at THAIFEX.

Q14: How is business matching practically facilitated at the show?
A: With dedicated zones, curated programs, and structured networking, THAIFEX ensures meaningful engagements that often translate into long-term partnerships and direct trade deals.

Q15: What’s the vision for the future of THAIFEX in the next 2–3 years?
A: The show aims to expand zones in technology, plant-based, and sustainable segments. There’s a strong commitment to innovation, international standards, and deeper global dialogue.

Q16: How does the show remain future-ready in a changing food landscape?
A: THAIFEX curates trend-driven content, works closely with global industry leaders, and promotes innovations through focused exhibits and knowledge platforms to remain a forward-looking marketplace.

Q17:What is the significance of THAIFEX – ANUGA ASIA to Thailand’s economy today?
THAIFEX – ANUGA ASIA plays a vital role in supporting Thailand’s economy across multiple dimensions:
• Driving exports and expanding access to global markets. The show serves as a key platform to advance the “Thai Kitchen to the World” policy, offering Thai entrepreneurs—especially SMEs—valuable opportunities to connect with international buyers.
• Empowering Thai businesses. This year, 1,184 Thai exhibitors are participating, including over 500 SMEs. Their presence highlights the strength and export readiness of Thai food producers, as well as their ability to develop innovative products for global markets.
• Promoting innovation and new food trends. THAIFEX champions emerging categories such as plant-based foods, sustainable products, and health-conscious innovations, aligning with global consumer demand.
• Strengthening Thailand’s global standing. Through collaboration between the Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP), the Thai Chamber of Commerce, and Koelnmesse Germany, the show underscores Thailand’s strategic position as a leading food trade hub in Asia.
• Boosting the domestic economy. With visitors from over 56 countries, the event generates significant economic impact across tourism, hospitality, and services, bringing tangible benefits to multiple sectors nationwide.
